Southern Caribbean eSIM for Indians (2026): Barbados, St Lucia, Trinidad and Dutch islands
Which plan works on which island, what Jio and Airtel cover, and what to do about data on a honeymoon, a roots trip or a cruise.
Picking a Barbados or St Lucia eSIM for Indians is simpler than it looks, because one regional plan covers every island in this guide. The real choice is between that plan, a single-island plan, a Jio or Airtel pack and a local tourist SIM.
One Caribbean eSIM covers all nine places in this guide, from Barbados and St Lucia to Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba and Curaçao, at ₹3,999 for 5 GB over 30 days. Most island plans cost ₹3,499 for 5 GB and Martinique's costs ₹399, so the regional plan pays off once you visit two islands other than Martinique. Jio's ₹951 ten-day pack covers every island here except Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.

One Caribbean plan or island plans: read the coverage list
On 21 October 2026 our 29-country Caribbean plan covered all nine places here: ₹3,999 for 5 GB, ₹6,899 for 10 GB or ₹10,799 for 7 days of Unlimited. The 107-country Global plan (₹6,099 for 5 GB) covers six of them but not Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao or the Caribbean Netherlands. Martinique is on our Caribbean and Global plans, not the Europe plan.
Each island plan is for its own island, and we have not assumed that the Aruba plan works in Curaçao or Bonaire. With most island plans at ₹3,499 for 5 GB, two islands on one trip already cost more than one Caribbean plan. Martinique, at ₹399, is the exception.

eSIMKite from esimkite.com and Jio from Jio's pack PDF, 21 Oct 2026; Airtel from TelecomTalk, 6 Aug 2026; Setar and Digicel from their sites, 21 Oct 2026.
In Martinique, 1 GB for 7 days is ₹99, 10 GB is ₹749 and Unlimited (1 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps) is ₹699 for 7 days. In Barbados, Unlimited (then 512 Kbps) is ₹5,199 for 7 days and 10 GB is ₹4,999.
Cruise ports vs at sea
In port, your phone goes back to the island's land networks, so your eSIM works if the plan covers that island. Cellular at Sea says ships on its network switch on their own onboard network in international waters, about an hour from port, and your home carrier bills it at maritime roaming rates. Jio's and Airtel's lists name no cruise-ship networks. At sea, turn data roaming off on both lines and use the ship's Wi-Fi. Cruise passengers usually do not need Aruba's ED card.
Country by country
Martinique
ARCEP's 2025 tests found voice quality generally good on every network, with Orange leading on calls and Outremer Telecom (OMT) second to Orange for web browsing. Our Martinique plan connects to Orange and Digicel and costs ₹399 for 5 GB or ₹99 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio covers Martinique on its 100- and 132-country and data-only lists; Airtel names only 'French West Indies', so check in the app. The currency is the euro.
St Lucia
Our St Lucia plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. Fill in the electronic immigration form at travelslu.govt.lc up to 3 days before you travel, one per family, and show the emailed QR code on arrival; you can also do it over the airport's free Wi-Fi.
St Vincent and the Grenadines
Our plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. The Ministry of National Security lists ten nationalities that need an entry visa, and India is not one of them.
Barbados
Our Barbados plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹849 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. The Barbados dollar is pegged to the US dollar (US$1 to BDS$1.98), US dollars are accepted island-wide, and most shops and restaurants take major cards. The official visa list says Indians need no visa.
Grenada
Our plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, pegged at EC$2.70 to US$1.
Trinidad and Tobago
For many Indian families this is a roots trip: India's High Commission says the first ship of indentured workers, the Fatel Razack, arrived on 30 May 1845, and their descendants are nearly 40-45% of the population. The two main networks are bmobile (TSTT) and Digicel; our Trinidad and Tobago plan connects to Digicel and costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹849 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio works here: the ₹951 pack applies, but not the ₹589 one-day pack. Airtel lists it as 'Trinidad'. US dollars are widely accepted at about TT$6.8 to US$1. The High Commission says the visa requirement for Indians is waived for up to 90 days, but T&T's own list does not show India yet, so check with T&T immigration.
Aruba
Setar calls itself Aruba's largest network, and Digicel is the other operator. Our plan connects to Digicel and costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹949 for 1 GB over 7 days. Setar has a kiosk in the airport arrivals hall, and its Tourist SIM or eSIM is $30 for 7 days with 'unlimited' data (5 GB a day); Digicel's tourist eSIM is also US$30 for 7 days. Jio covers Aruba on its 100- and 132-country and data-only lists, and Airtel lists it. Air arrivals fill in the ED card at edcardaruba.aw and pay a US$20 Sustainability Fee by credit card.
Curaçao
Flow (UTS) is the incumbent and Digicel the other operator. Our plan connects to Digicel and Setel N.V. and costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹799 for 1 GB over 7 days. Digicel's tourist eSIM is US$30 for 7 days with 7 GB, unlimited Digicel calls and roaming in Aruba and Bonaire. Jio covers Curaçao on its 100- and 132-country and data-only lists; Airtel names only 'Netherlands Antilles'. Every foreign visitor must complete the Digital Immigration Card at dicardcuracao.com within 7 days before departure.
Caribbean Netherlands
Bonaire has three operators, TELBO, Flow and Digicel; Saba and Sint Eustatius have TelCell and Flow. Our plan lists SETAR and UTS Wireless Curacao as its networks and costs ₹3,899 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Coverage on Bonaire is good in Kralendijk but patchy in Washington Slagbaai park and on the north coast, and no SIMs are sold at its airport. No Jio pack covers these islands, and Airtel names only 'Netherlands Antilles'. The islands use the US dollar, and Bonaire charges a US$75 visitor entry tax, paid online before you fly.
Visas for the Dutch islands: Netherlands Worldwide says Indians need a short-stay Caribbean visa for Aruba, Curaçao and the Caribbean Netherlands unless they hold a multiple-entry US, Canadian, Schengen, UK or Irish visa or a residence permit. You apply in person at VFS Global in India.
Bank OTPs, WhatsApp and UPI
A travel eSIM is data only. Your Indian SIM stays in the phone as the second line, with your number, WhatsApp and bank SMS. More in keeping WhatsApp and bank OTPs working abroad.
- Jio: the ₹951 pack includes 25 SMS. On Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba there is no pack, so check in MyJio what receiving SMS costs.
- Airtel prepaid: the IR activation pack is ₹118 for 28 days at standard charges; check in Airtel Thanks whether you need it for SMS abroad, and whether Martinique, Curaçao and Bonaire are covered.
- Airtel postpaid: new plans from ₹499 a month include one free 5-day roaming trip a year with free incoming SMS; Airtel has not listed the countries.
- WhatsApp: messages and calls go over the eSIM's data, and your account keeps your Indian number.
- UPI: not live on any island here (BusinessLine, August 2026). Carry a card; on Bonaire, small eateries and stalls take cash only.
Set it up at home
- Check your phone takes an eSIM: iPhone XS or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z models. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows, it does.
- Buy the Caribbean plan or one plan per island, and scan each QR code on Wi-Fi before you leave India.
- On most plans the validity starts when the eSIM first connects at your destination, not when you buy or install it.
- After landing or docking, turn the eSIM line on, switch on data roaming for it, and set it as the line for mobile data.
Step-by-step pictures are in how to install a travel eSIM.
When a local SIM or roaming is the better choice
Choose a Jio or Airtel pack for many normal calls on your Indian number, for example to family during a Trinidad visit: Jio's ₹951 pack has 100 outgoing and 100 incoming minutes over 10 days, and Airtel's ₹1,298 pack has 200 minutes. Jio's ₹121 Wi-Fi calling pack (100 minutes) suits calls to India over hotel Wi-Fi.
Choose a local tourist SIM for a week on the Dutch islands: Setar and Digicel sell 7-day plans for $30 in Aruba, and Digicel's tourist eSIMs on Curaçao and Bonaire include roaming across Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. Compare them with our ₹3,499 island plans before you buy.
Questions
Which plan covers Barbados, St Lucia and Grenada?
Our Caribbean plan covers all three, at ₹3,999 for 5 GB over 30 days. Each island also has its own plan at ₹3,499 for 5 GB, so for two or more of them the Caribbean plan costs less.
Does Jio work in Trinidad and Tobago?
Yes. Trinidad and Tobago is on Jio's 100-country list, so the ₹951 ten-day pack (4 GB, 100 outgoing and 100 incoming minutes) works, but the ₹589 one-day pack does not. Without a pack, data costs roughly ₹600 per MB.
Is Martinique covered by the Europe eSIM?
No. On 21 October 2026 Martinique was on our Caribbean and Global plans, not the Europe plan. Its own plan costs ₹399 for 5 GB.
Does the Aruba plan work in Curaçao and Bonaire?
Do not assume it does: each island plan is for its own island. The Caribbean plan covers Aruba, Curaçao and the Caribbean Netherlands in one eSIM.
Do resorts have Wi-Fi?
In Trinidad and Tobago, the tourism site says Wi-Fi is common in hotels, restaurants and malls, and bmobile's free bzone Wi-Fi needs registration. St Lucia's airport has free Wi-Fi. We have no checked figures for resorts elsewhere, so ask your hotel.
Can I use my Indian SIM and still get bank OTPs?
Yes. Keep the Indian SIM on as the second line for bank SMS while the eSIM handles data, and leave data roaming off on it unless you have a pack.
Do I need a SIM card in Barbados or Aruba?
No. A travel eSIM installed at home gives you data on arrival. Aruba's Setar kiosk at arrivals suits travellers who want local call minutes.
Can I share the eSIM as a hotspot?
Usually, yes: hotspot is included on most plans. Connected devices share your plan's data.
