Eastern Caribbean eSIM for Indians (2026)

Picking a St Maarten or Antigua eSIM for Indians is mostly about the island list, because prices and roaming cover change from one island to the next. Compare a Jio or Airtel pack, a local SIM and a travel eSIM, and plan for time at sea on a cruise.

Short answer

One Caribbean eSIM covers nine of the ten islands here at ₹3,999 for 5 GB over 30 days, but not Dutch Sint Maarten, whose own plan is also ₹3,999 for 5 GB. On the French islands (Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy and Guadeloupe) a country plan is ₹399 for 5 GB, while the other islands cost ₹3,499 each. Jio's ₹951 ten-day pack covers Antigua, St Kitts, the BVI and four more, but not Sint Maarten, Saint-Martin or Saint-Barthélemy.

Bill shock warning. Sint Maarten is on no Jio list, and Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy are only on Jio's Global Pack, credit used at standard rates. Without a pack, Jio charges roughly ₹600 per MB and ₹150 a minute for calls to India on the French islands and on Antigua, St Kitts and the rest. Keep data roaming off on your Indian SIM.

One Caribbean plan or island plans: read the coverage list

On 21 October 2026 our 29-country Caribbean plan covered every island here except Dutch Sint Maarten: ₹3,999 for 5 GB, ₹6,899 for 10 GB or ₹10,799 for 7 days of Unlimited. The 107-country Global plan covers the same nine at ₹6,099 for 5 GB, which suits trips beyond the Caribbean plan's list. Our Europe plan's list does not include Guadeloupe, Saint-Barthélemy or Saint-Martin.

Prices split in two. The French islands cost ₹399 for 5 GB each, far less than the regional plan. Anguilla, Antigua, St Kitts, Montserrat, the BVI and Dominica cost ₹3,499 each, so if you visit two or more of them, one Caribbean plan costs less than two island plans.

One island, two plans: Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten

The island is shared: Sint Maarten is the Dutch part and Saint-Martin the French part. Our two plans differ sharply: 5 GB is ₹399 on the [Saint-Martin plan](/travel-esim/st-martin) and ₹3,999 on the [Sint Maarten plan](/travel-esim/sint-maarten). We cannot confirm that either plan covers both sides. The Saint-Martin plan uses Orange and Digicel, which ARCEP tested on the French side; Telem, the Dutch side's operator, was not in those tests. Buy the plan for the side where you stay. Netherlands Worldwide says crossing overland to the French side needs a French visa if you require one.

On the French islands, 1 GB for 7 days is ₹99, 10 GB is ₹749 and Unlimited (1 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps) is ₹699 for 7 days. On Antigua, Unlimited (then 512 Kbps) is ₹5,899 for 7 days; on the Caribbean plan it is ₹10,799.

Cruise ports vs at sea

In port, your phone goes back to the island's land networks, so your eSIM works if the plan covers that island. Cellular at Sea says ships on its network switch on their own onboard network in international waters, about an hour from port, and your home carrier bills it at maritime roaming rates. Jio's and Airtel's lists name no cruise-ship networks. At sea, turn data roaming off on both lines and use the ship's Wi-Fi.

Country by country

Sint Maarten

Telem (mobile brand TelCell) calls itself the Dutch side's only local telecom provider and claims islandwide coverage. Our plan costs ₹3,999 for 5 GB or ₹2,099 for 3 GB and is not on the Caribbean plan. Telem's prepaid bundles run from $2 for 2.5 GB over one day to $10 for 7.5 GB over 7 days. Jio lists no pack or rate here, and Airtel names only 'Netherlands Antilles'. The law asks everyone arriving to fill in the ED form at entry.sx. Indians need a short-stay Caribbean visa unless they hold a multiple-entry US, Canadian, Schengen, UK or Irish visa or a residence permit.

Saint-Martin

ARCEP tested five operators on the French side in 2025: Orange, Free, Digicel, Dauphin and UTS. Orange led on calls and was the only one with 5G, while Digicel and UTS lagged on the share of tests above 30 Mbit/s. Our plan connects to Orange and Digicel and costs ₹399 for 5 GB or ₹99 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio lists Saint Martin only on its Global Pack, and Airtel names only 'French West Indies'. The currency is the euro.

Saint-Barthélemy

ARCEP found Orange best overall in 2025, with Dauphin second on most data measures. Calls over messaging apps were generally worse here than on the other French islands, except on Orange. Our plan connects to Orange and Digicel and costs ₹399 for 5 GB or ₹99 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio covers it only through the Global Pack, and Airtel names only 'French West Indies'. The currency is the euro.

Anguilla

Our plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 ten-day pack and Airtel's packs apply. Anguilla uses the Eastern Caribbean dollar, pegged at EC$2.70 to US$1.

Antigua and Barbuda

Our Antigua and Barbuda plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. Indians need a visa from the official eVisa portal, but holders of a valid US, Canadian, UK or Schengen visa or residence card can get a 30-day visa on arrival.

St Kitts and Nevis

Our plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. Every foreign visitor needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation from knatravelform.kn: US$17 per person, applied for 2 weeks to 3 months before travel. Applications through third-party sites are denied.

Montserrat

Our plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, and India is on the government's 'visa not required' list.

British Virgin Islands

The regulator licenses three mobile networks: Flow, CCT and Digicel. Our plan connects to Digicel and Flow and costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. Every traveller must complete the digital ED card at BVIedcards.gov.vg within 72 hours before travel. Arrivals pay a US$10 levy, and departures cost US$50 by air or US$20 by ferry.

Guadeloupe

ARCEP found Orange best on voice in 2025, with Orange and Outremer Telecom (OMT) level for loading web pages in under 5 seconds. Our Guadeloupe plan connects to Orange, Digicel and Free and costs ₹399 for 5 GB or ₹99 for 1 GB over 7 days. Unlike Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe is on Jio's 100- and 132-country and data-only lists. Airtel names only 'French West Indies'. The currency is the euro.

Dominica

Our plan connects to Flow, and Digicel also operates. It costs ₹3,499 for 5 GB or ₹899 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs apply. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, and the government says Commonwealth nationals, Indians included, need no visa for up to six months.

Bank OTPs, WhatsApp and UPI

A travel eSIM is data only. Your Indian SIM stays in the phone as the second line, with your number, WhatsApp and bank SMS. More in keeping WhatsApp and bank OTPs working abroad.

Jio: the ₹951 pack includes 25 SMS. On Sint Maarten, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy there is no regular pack, so check in MyJio what receiving SMS costs.
Airtel prepaid: the IR activation pack is ₹118 for 28 days at standard charges; check in Airtel Thanks whether you need it for SMS abroad, and whether the French or Dutch islands are covered.
Airtel postpaid: new plans from ₹499 a month include one free 5-day roaming trip a year with free incoming SMS; Airtel has not listed the countries.
WhatsApp: messages and calls go over the eSIM's data. On Saint-Barthélemy, ARCEP found calls over messaging apps worse than on the other French islands, except on Orange.
UPI: not live on any island here (BusinessLine, August 2026). Carry a card and some cash.

Avoid bill shock. Leave data roaming off on your Indian SIM unless you have bought a pack, and set the eSIM as your mobile data line.

Set it up at home

Check your phone takes an eSIM: iPhone XS or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z models. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows, it does.
Buy the Caribbean plan or one plan per island, and scan each QR code on Wi-Fi before you leave India.
On most plans the validity starts when the eSIM first connects at your destination, not when you buy or install it.
After landing or docking, turn the eSIM line on, switch on data roaming for it, and set it as the line for mobile data.

When a local SIM or roaming is the better choice

Choose a Jio or Airtel pack for many normal calls on your Indian number: Jio's ₹951 pack has 100 outgoing and 100 incoming minutes over 10 days on seven of these islands, and Airtel's ₹1,298 pack has 200 minutes. Jio's ₹121 Wi-Fi calling pack (100 minutes) suits calls to India over hotel Wi-Fi.

Choose a local SIM on Sint Maarten if you stay on the Dutch side: Telem's $10 bundle gives 7.5 GB for 7 days, against ₹3,999 for our 5 GB plan. On the other islands, compare the ₹3,499 island plan with Jio's ₹951 pack if you are on Jio.

Questions

Which plan covers both sides of St Martin and Sint Maarten?

We cannot confirm one that does. The Saint-Martin plan (₹399 for 5 GB) uses French-side networks and is on the Caribbean plan; the Sint Maarten plan (₹3,999 for 5 GB) is separate. Buy the plan for the side where you stay.

Does Jio work in the Eastern Caribbean?

On most islands, yes: Anguilla, Antigua, St Kitts, Montserrat, the BVI, Dominica and Guadeloupe are on Jio's 100-country list, so the ₹951 pack works. Sint Maarten is on no Jio list, and Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy are only on the Global Pack.

Are Guadeloupe and St Barth covered by the Europe eSIM?

No. Our Europe plan's list does not include Guadeloupe, Saint-Barthélemy or Saint-Martin. They are on the Caribbean plan, and each has its own plan at ₹399 for 5 GB.

Does an eSIM work in port on a Caribbean cruise?

Yes, if your plan covers that island: in port the phone joins the island's land networks. At sea, ships switch to their own network, billed at maritime roaming rates, so turn data roaming off.

Is a regional Caribbean plan better than island plans?

If you visit two or more of Anguilla, Antigua, St Kitts, Montserrat, the BVI and Dominica, yes: ₹3,999 covers them all, against ₹3,499 each. For the French islands alone, the ₹399 island plans cost far less.

Can I use my Indian SIM and still get bank OTPs?

Yes. Keep the Indian SIM on as the second line for bank SMS while the eSIM handles data. Leave data roaming off on it unless you have a pack.

Do I need a SIM card in Antigua or St Maarten?

No. A travel eSIM installed at home gives you data on arrival. A Telem SIM suits a longer stay on the Dutch side.

Can I share the eSIM as a hotspot?

Usually, yes: hotspot is included on most plans. Connected devices share your plan's data.
