Dubai eSIM for Indians (2026): free airport eSIM, roaming pack or travel eSIM
Your first day of data in Dubai can be free, so here is what the rest of the trip costs and how to keep bank OTPs reaching your Indian number.
India is one of Dubai's biggest sources of visitors: Mumbai alone sent 1.2 million passengers to Dubai International in the first half of 2025. The usual choice is between a Jio or Airtel roaming pack, a du or e& tourist line after landing, or a travel eSIM installed at home. Dubai adds one more option for day one: a free 10 GB eSIM that lasts 24 hours.
Your first 24 hours in Dubai can be free: du and e& give visitors 10 GB of data for one day after immigration. For the rest of a 5 to 10 day trip, eSIMKite's 3 GB plan is ₹849 and 5 GB is ₹1,399, both for 30 days, while Jio's 10-day pack is ₹951 for 4 GB and Airtel's is ₹1,298 for 6 GB, both with calls. If you want normal calls on your Indian number, the roaming pack is the better buy; the eSIM suits stopovers (1 GB for 7 days, ₹299) and heavy users (Unlimited, ₹1,899 for 7 days).

Bigger plans also run for 30 days: 10 GB is ₹2,499, 20 GB is ₹4,399 and 50 GB is ₹9,999. Unlimited plans give 1 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps: ₹849 for 3 days, ₹1,399 for 5 days, ₹1,899 for 7 days, ₹2,599 for 10 days, ₹3,899 for 15 days and ₹7,099 for 30 days. If you see a 7-day version of a plan, skip it: 5 GB for 7 days costs ₹1,799, more than the same 5 GB for 30 days.

Networks and coverage in the UAE
The UAE has two mobile operators, e& (formerly Etisalat) and du, and eSIMKite's UAE plans connect to both. In Opensignal's March 2026 report, e& won Best Network for the third time in a row and took 12 of 13 awards outright, including coverage and 5G coverage. Its average 5G download speed was 276.1 Mbps, 47 Mbps ahead of du. du won one award, time on network, at 99.3% against 99.0% for e&, so both networks are almost always available.
Ookla's Speedtest Global Index for September 2026 ranks the UAE first in the world for mobile speed, with a average download of 761.17 Mbps, and the regulator TDRA said that by November 2025 5G covered more than 99.5% of populated areas.
Dubai International is busy with Indian routes: Mumbai alone accounted for 1.2 million passengers there in the first half of 2025. Trips tend to be short, too: Dubai's hotel guests stayed 3.7 nights on average in 2025, so for many visitors the free first day plus a 3 GB plan is enough.
Bank OTPs, WhatsApp and UPI
eSIMKite plans are data only. Your Indian SIM stays in the phone as the second line, so your number, WhatsApp account and UPI apps stay as they are. More in keeping WhatsApp and bank OTPs working abroad.
- Jio: the UAE packs include SMS, 25 on the ₹951 pack and 100 on the ₹898 UAE pack. Check in the MyJio app whether your plan receives SMS abroad without a pack.
- Airtel prepaid: the 5-day and 10-day packs include 20 SMS, and the IR activation pack costs ₹118 for 28 days at standard charges. Check the Airtel Thanks app before you fly.
- Airtel postpaid: new plans from ₹499 a month include one free roaming trip a year from 8 Oct 2026, with 5 GB, 60 minutes and free incoming SMS for 5 days. Airtel's announcement does not list the countries, so confirm the UAE in the app.
- Vi: check in the Vi app whether your plan needs a roaming pack to receive SMS abroad.
- WhatsApp: The UAE restricts internet calls on local networks. Many travellers find WhatsApp calls work on a travel eSIM because its data is routed outside the UAE, but this is not guaranteed; messages always work.
- Calling apps on a local line: e&'s Visitor Line includes unlimited promo data for GoChat Messenger, e&'s own calling app.
- UPI: the UAE is one of the countries where Indian UPI apps can pay merchants (August 2026). UPI QR payments work at selected merchants through NeoPay (Mashreq Bank), Network International and Magnati; Dubai Duty Free and Lulu Hypermarket accept it, and you pay from your Indian bank account in rupees.
- Taxis: Dubai Taxi lists cash, cards, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Alipay QR and the Nol card. UPI is not on that list, so keep a card ready.
Before you land
- Visa: most Indian passport holders need a UAE visit visa before they fly (ICP, June 2026); check the options on the official u.ae page.
- No arrival form: there is no arrival or health form for Indians. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the UAE.
- Free eSIM after immigration: du's tourist eSIM gives 10 GB for 24 hours: you choose a bundle, scan your passport and it activates. You must be 18 or older with a UAE entry stamp or visa, and there is a limit of two per passport. e&'s Visitor Line also gives 10 GB for one day, started from QR codes on airport ads.
- Airport Wi-Fi: Dubai International gives 60 minutes free after a pop-up asking for your name, phone number and email. Zayed International in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah Airport give unlimited free Wi-Fi.
- Apps: RTA's S'hail for the Metro, buses, trams and Nol card top-ups; Careem, Uber and Bolt for rides (red-roof Dubai Taxis can be booked in Bolt, S'hail or Careem); Google Maps or Waze; and the Dubai Police app for the Tourism Police and emergencies.
- Tourist discounts: the QR code on the du SIM envelope leads to ALSAADA, GDRFA Dubai's digital discount card for visitors.
Set it up at home
- Check your phone takes an eSIM: iPhone XS or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z models. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows, it does.
- Buy the UAE plan and scan the QR code on Wi-Fi before you leave India.
- Leave the eSIM line off until you need it. The plan starts counting when the eSIM first connects at your destination, not when you buy it.
- On landing, turn the eSIM line on, switch on data roaming for it, and set it as the mobile data line.
Step-by-step pictures for iPhone and Android are in how to install a travel eSIM. If you take the free 10 GB airport eSIM first, keep the eSIMKite line switched off for those 24 hours, then turn it on and make it your data line.
When a local SIM or roaming is the better choice
Pick a roaming pack if you will make many normal calls on your Indian number. Jio's ₹951 pack gives 4 GB with 100 outgoing and 100 incoming minutes for 10 days, which costs less than our 5 GB plan, and Airtel's ₹1,298 pack gives 6 GB with 200 minutes. Jio also sells Wi-Fi calling packs for calls to India, ₹121 for 100 minutes or ₹521 for 500 minutes, if your phone supports Wi-Fi calling. Pick a du or e& line for a long stay or if you need a UAE number: du's tourist bundles run 28 days from AED 49 for 4 GB, and an e& Visitor Line stays active for the length of your visa, up to 90 days. If you are in Dubai for a single day, the free 10 GB airport eSIM may be all you need. The travel eSIM makes most sense for a stopover, for heavy daily use, and when you want your Indian SIM kept for calls and OTPs with data roaming off. More in Jio vs Airtel vs Vi roaming packs.
Questions
Does WhatsApp work in Dubai on a travel eSIM?
The UAE restricts internet calls on local networks. Many travellers find WhatsApp calls work on a travel eSIM because its data is routed outside the UAE, but this is not guaranteed; messages always work.
Will I still get OTPs from my Indian bank in Dubai?
Yes, as long as your Indian SIM stays switched on as the second line and your plan receives SMS abroad. Check this in the MyJio, Airtel Thanks or Vi app before you fly, and keep data roaming off on that SIM.
Is Jio or Airtel roaming cheaper than an eSIM for Dubai?
It depends on the trip. For 7 to 10 days with about 4 GB, Jio's ₹951 pack costs less than our 5 GB plan at ₹1,399 and includes calls. For a stopover, our 1 GB plan at ₹299 costs less than Jio's ₹898 UAE pack. For heavy use, our Unlimited plans slow to 1 Mbps after the daily 1 GB, while Jio drops to 64 kbps once its quota runs out.
Which network does the eSIM use in the UAE?
eSIMKite's UAE plans connect to du and e& (formerly Etisalat), the country's two operators. e& won 12 of 13 awards in Opensignal's March 2026 report, and du was ahead on time on network.
Can I share it as a hotspot?
Usually, yes: hotspot is included on most plans. Connected devices share your plan's data.
Is the free airport eSIM enough for my trip?
For one day, it can be: it gives 10 GB for 24 hours. After that you need a paid du bundle, a roaming pack or a travel eSIM. Gulf News reported in September 2025 that the du line itself stays valid for 30 days from purchase.
