Choosing a Peru eSIM for Indians travelling on to Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela or the Guianas means checking each border, because no single plan covers all eight places. Jio has packs for most of them but not Ecuador or Venezuela, Airtel skips Venezuela and French Guiana, and a local SIM is the third option.

Short answer

Our Peru eSIM is ₹1,399 for 5 GB over 30 days, and for Peru plus Colombia or Ecuador one Latin America 5 GB eSIM (₹2,399) covers all three, but not Bolivia, Venezuela, Guyana or Suriname. Jio works in Peru, Colombia and Bolivia on its 132-country pack (₹1,499 for 14 days with 2 GB) and Airtel's ₹1,298 pack gives 6 GB for 10 days, but Jio has no pack for Ecuador or Venezuela. In Guyana and Suriname, Jio's ₹951 pack costs less than our plans.

Regional plan or country plans: read the coverage list

Each regional plan has its own country list, shown on the plan card before you pay, so do not assume. On 21 October 2026 the lists were:

  • [Latin America](/travel-esim/latin-america) 5 GB (₹2,399) and 10 GB (₹4,299): Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and French Guiana.
  • Latin America Unlimited (₹6,999 for 7 days): Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia.
  • Caribbean 5 GB (₹4,099), despite the name: Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and French Guiana.
  • [Global](/travel-esim/global) 5 GB (₹6,099): Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Guyana.
  • None: Venezuela and Suriname need their own plans.

For Peru with Colombia or Ecuador, Latin America 5 GB costs less than two country plans. A Peru plan does not work in Bolivia: a Peru plan plus a Bolivia plan costs less than the Caribbean plan, which covers both in one eSIM.

Country by country

Peru

Peru has four main networks: Bitel, Claro, Entel and Movistar. Opensignal's February 2026 report named Entel Best Network, with 8 of 14 awards, while Claro and Bitel jointly won download speed. Our Peru plan connects to Claro and Movistar. Lima airport has free Wi-Fi on '.FreeWifiJorgeChavez' with no phone-number step, and a 'Peru SIM' shop in arrivals, though the airport lists no prices. Uber runs 24 hours a day in Lima. Machu Picchu and Cusco: we have no coverage data for either. The official Machu Picchu site says nothing about mobile signal, and its rules ban using phone apps in narrow passageways, selfie sticks and drones.

Colombia

Colombia has four main networks: Claro, Movistar, Tigo and WOM. Opensignal's April 2026 report gave Claro the best coverage (8.3 out of 10) and the fastest overall downloads, while Movistar won Reliability and 5G download speed. Our Colombia plan connects to Claro, Movistar and Tigo and costs ₹1,599 for 5 GB. Colombia is on Jio's 132-country and data-only lists, and Airtel covers it. Freedom House notes that two internet providers blocked Reddit for several days in June 2024.

Ecuador

Ecuador's networks are Claro, CNT and Movistar. Opensignal's July 2026 report named Movistar Best Network, with the top reliability and download speed, and found that no operator met its 5G coverage threshold. Our Ecuador plan connects to Claro and Movistar and costs ₹1,599 for 5 GB. Jio has no pack for Ecuador and lists no data rate; calls to India cost ₹150 a minute and incoming calls ₹75. Airtel's packs cover it. Galápagos: we have no coverage data for the islands or for cruise boats, so we cannot say whether our Ecuador plan works there. Download what you need before you sail.

Bolivia

Our Bolivia plan connects to Tigo and Viva but is costly at ₹2,499 for 5 GB, or ₹749 for 1 GB over 7 days. Opensignal's South American Awards 2026 named Viva and Tigo regional leaders for voice apps, and Ookla's median download is 23.45 Mbps (98th in the world). Bolivia is on Jio's 132-country and data-only lists, and Airtel covers it: Airtel's ₹1,298 pack (6 GB, 10 days) costs less than our 5 GB plan. We have no coverage data for the Uyuni salt flats.

Venezuela

Our Venezuela plan connects to Digitel and costs ₹5,799 for 5 GB or ₹1,299 for 1 GB over 7 days; no regional plan covers Venezuela. Neither Jio nor Airtel has a pack there, and without one Jio charges about ₹600 per MB and ₹150 a minute for calls to India. Ookla's median download is 29.21 Mbps (94th). Freedom House's 2025 report says that as of May 2025, X, Signal, YouTube, TikTok and Telegram were blocked in Venezuela, along with tools used to get around blocks; we have not checked changes since then. Do not plan on those apps working.

Guyana

Our Guyana plan connects to Digicel and is costly at ₹3,499 for 5 GB; our Global plan also covers Guyana. Here roaming is often the better choice: Guyana is on Jio's 100-country list, so the ₹951 pack (4 GB for 10 days, with 100 outgoing and 100 incoming minutes) applies, and Airtel's packs cover it too. Without a pack, Jio charges about ₹600 per MB. Guyana's Foreign Ministry says ordinary Indian passport holders need a visitor's visa.

Suriname

Our Suriname plan connects to Digicel and costs ₹3,099 for 5 GB, and no regional plan covers Suriname. Ookla's median download is 64.68 Mbps (73rd, August 2026). Suriname is on Jio's 100-country list, so Jio's ₹951 pack costs less than our plan for a 10-day trip, and Airtel's packs cover it too. Without a pack, Jio charges about ₹600 per MB.

French Guiana

Our French Guiana plan connects to Orange and Digicel and costs ₹399 for 5 GB over 30 days, or ₹99 for 1 GB over 7 days. Our Latin America 5 GB and Caribbean plans cover it, but the Global plan does not. French Guiana is on Jio's 100-country list, but Airtel does not cover it, and Jio charges about ₹600 per MB without a pack.

Bank OTPs, WhatsApp and UPI

A travel eSIM is data only, so keep your Indian SIM in the phone as the second line for your number, WhatsApp account and bank SMS. More in keeping WhatsApp and bank OTPs working abroad.

  • Jio: the ₹1,499 pack includes 100 SMS and the ₹951 pack 25 SMS, where they apply. Ecuador and Venezuela have no pack, so check in the MyJio app what receiving SMS costs there.
  • Airtel: the prepaid IR activation pack is ₹118 for 28 days; check in the Airtel Thanks app whether you need it to receive SMS. Airtel does not cover Venezuela or French Guiana.
  • App blocks: Freedom House reports that Venezuela blocked X, Signal, YouTube, TikTok and Telegram as of May 2025. Two Colombian providers blocked Reddit for a few days in June 2024, and Ecuador blocks some websites but no social media. We found no official rule for the other countries.
  • UPI: UPI merchant payments were not live in Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Guyana or Suriname on 31 August 2026, so carry a card or forex card.
Avoid bill shock in Ecuador and Venezuela. Neither is on any Jio pack list. In Ecuador, Jio lists no data rate and charges ₹150 a minute for calls to India; in Venezuela, data is about ₹600 per MB and Airtel has no pack either. Jio's pay-as-you-go data is also about ₹600 per MB in Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. Turn data roaming off on your Indian SIM unless you have bought a pack.

Set it up at home

  1. Check your phone takes an eSIM: iPhone XS or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z models. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows, it does.
  2. Buy a Latin America plan or one plan per country, and scan each QR code on Wi-Fi before you leave India.
  3. On most plans the validity starts when the eSIM first connects at your destination, not when you buy or install it.
  4. After landing, turn the eSIM line on, switch on data roaming for it, and set it as the line for mobile data.

Step-by-step pictures for iPhone and Android are in how to install a travel eSIM.

When a local SIM or roaming is the better choice

Choose a Jio or Airtel pack for Guyana and Suriname: Jio's ₹951 pack (4 GB for 10 days, with calls) costs less than our ₹3,499 and ₹3,099 plans there. In Bolivia, Airtel's ₹1,298 pack (6 GB for 10 days) costs less than our 5 GB plan. A pack also suits a trip with many normal calls on your Indian number.

Choose a local SIM for a long stay or a local number. Lima airport has a Peru SIM shop in arrivals, though it publishes no prices.

Questions

Does Jio work in Peru and Colombia?

Yes. Both are on Jio's 132-country pack: ₹1,499 for 14 days with 2 GB, 100 minutes and 100 SMS, or ₹2,899 for 30 days with 5 GB. They are not on the 75- or 100-country lists, so the ₹589 and ₹951 packs do not cover them. Without a pack, Jio charges about ₹10 per MB in Peru.

Can I use my Indian SIM in Peru, Ecuador and the rest of the trip?

Yes in most places, but buy a pack first and keep the SIM on as the second line so bank SMS reach you. Jio has no pack for Ecuador or Venezuela, and Airtel has none for Venezuela or French Guiana.

Do I need a SIM card in Peru?

No. A travel eSIM installed at home gives you data when you land in Lima, and the airport also has free Wi-Fi. A local SIM from the Peru SIM shop in arrivals suits a long stay.

Will I have signal at Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Galápagos?

We cannot say. We have no coverage data for Machu Picchu, Cusco or the Galápagos Islands, so we cannot confirm that our Peru or Ecuador plans work there, and the official Machu Picchu site says nothing about signal. Download tickets, maps and boarding passes before you go.

Does a Peru eSIM work in Bolivia?

No. A Peru plan works only in Peru. Buy a Bolivia plan as well, or a plan that lists both: Caribbean 5 GB (₹4,099), Latin America Unlimited (₹6,999 for 7 days) or Global 5 GB (₹6,099). Latin America 5 GB does not cover Bolivia.

What is available in Guyana and Suriname?

Our Guyana (₹3,499 for 5 GB) and Suriname (₹3,099) plans both use Digicel, and only the Global plan adds Guyana. Jio's ₹951 pack and Airtel's packs cover both and cost less for a short trip. Without a pack, Jio data is about ₹600 per MB.

Can I share it as a hotspot?

Usually, yes: hotspot is included on most plans. Connected devices share your plan's data.
