Scandinavia and Iceland eSIM for Indians (2026): Norway to Greenland
One Europe plan or a plan per country for a Nordic trip, what each option misses, and how to keep bank OTPs coming.
Choosing a Scandinavia eSIM for Indian travellers is simpler than it looks: one Europe plan covers Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. The real choices are Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, and whether a Jio or Airtel pack or a local SIM suits you better.
For a Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland trip, one eSIMKite Europe eSIM covers all five: 10 GB for 30 days is ₹749, 5 GB is ₹499 and Unlimited is ₹1,099 for 7 days. Jio's ₹951 pack (4 GB, 10 days) and Airtel's ₹1,298 pack (6 GB, 10 days) also cover all five, with calls included. Åland and the Faroe Islands need a wider plan or their own, and Greenland always needs its own plan.

One Europe plan or country plans: read the coverage list
Each regional plan has its own country list, shown on the plan card before you pay. On 21 October 2026, the Europe 5 GB (₹499, 35 countries), 10 GB (₹749, 31 countries) and Unlimited (₹1,099 for 7 days, 37 countries) plans all covered Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland, but not Åland, the Faroe Islands or Greenland. For those, pick as follows:
- Åland: the 41-country Europe plans add it, at ₹1,599 for 5 GB or ₹2,699 for 10 GB. The ₹749 Europe plan plus the ₹699 Åland plan costs less together, but means two eSIMs.
- Faroe Islands: the Global plans add them, at ₹1,499 for 5 GB or ₹2,599 for 10 GB, but miss Åland. The ₹499 Europe plan plus the ₹749 Faroe Islands plan costs less together, on two eSIMs.
- Greenland: none of our regional plans covers it, so it always needs its own plan.
A country plan saves money only if you stay in one country: 5 GB is ₹399 against ₹499 for Europe, and at 10 GB both cost ₹749. For two or more countries, one Europe plan costs less than two country plans and needs only one eSIM. Every plan and its list is on the Europe eSIM page.

Country by country
Denmark
Our Denmark plan connects to 3, TDC and Telia, and Ookla puts the median mobile download at 166.18 Mbps (16th in the world, September 2026). Lyca Mobile Denmark sells a 30-day plan online for DKK 19 with 5 GB, calls and 4 GB of EU roaming data, as a SIM or eSIM. Bolt lists only Copenhagen and Aarhus. Also, 1000-krone and older-series Danish notes became worthless on 31 May 2026.
Sweden
Our Sweden plan connects to 3, Telenor and Telia; the median download is 133.18 Mbps (Ookla, 30th). Comviq's prepaid SIM is free, and its 30-day bundles with free calls and SMS in Sweden start at SEK 159 for 5 GB; up to 50 GB of a bundle works elsewhere in the EU and EEA. But every Swedish prepaid SIM must be registered to its owner: online with Swedish BankID or a Veriff photo-ID check, or with a passport at a Telia store or Comviq retailer. Only 5% paid cash for their last shop purchase (Riksbank, 2025).
Norway
Our Norway plan connects to Telenor and Telia; the median download is 141.73 Mbps (Ookla, 25th). Telia's prepaid starter is NOK 99 with 14 days of free calls and 250 MB. Every prepaid card must be registered before use, and visitors without Norwegian BankID buy and register in a Telia store. Only 3% paid cash for their latest shop purchase. The regulator Nkom says Telenor closes 2G on 31 December 2027, after which phones need 4G or 5G and VoLTE to make calls.
Finland
Our Finland plan connects to DNA, Elisa and Telia; the median download is 123.36 Mbps (Ookla, 40th). Finnish prepaid is charged per day of use: DNA's Rajaton Prepaid starter is EUR 4.90, then EUR 0.99 or EUR 1.29 a day for unlimited use, and Elisa caps data at EUR 0.99 a day; both sell eSIMs. Cash was still 27% of point-of-sale payments in 2024 (ECB). Bolt runs in Helsinki, Rovaniemi and about 19 other towns.
Iceland
Our Iceland plan connects to Nova and Síminn. Síminn's prepaid starter, as a SIM or eSIM, is ISK 3,000 for 10 GB, 50 international minutes (India included) and 50 texts over 30 days. Síminn says its network covers almost anywhere in Iceland and links a coverage map, worth checking before a Ring Road or highland drive. Nova sells a travel eSIM online and a plastic SIM at the ELKO shop in Keflavík airport. Without a pack, Jio charges about ₹5 per MB here. Bolt does not operate in Iceland.
Faroe Islands
Our Faroe Islands plan connects to Faroese Telecom and costs ₹749 for 5 GB over 30 days, or ₹199 for 1 GB over 7 days. Jio covers the islands only with data-only packs, from ₹999 for 2 GB over 14 days, and charges about ₹10 per MB without one. Airtel lists the islands.
Greenland
Our Greenland plan connects to TELE Greenland and costs ₹1,099 for 1 GB over 7 days, or ₹4,499 for 5 GB over 30 days. Tusass, Greenland's operator, sells a Hello Greenland eSIM for use only inside Greenland: DKK 249 for 3 GB over 7 days or DKK 499 for 20 GB over 14 days. If you need more than a few GB, compare it with our plans. No Jio pack covers Greenland; Airtel lists it. The Norwegian Embassy in India notes that Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Svalbard are outside the Schengen area, so check their entry rules on the official portals.
Åland Islands
Our Åland plan connects to Ålcom and costs ₹699 for 5 GB over 30 days. Of our regional plans, only the 41-country Europe plans cover Åland, from ₹1,599 for 5 GB. Neither Jio nor Airtel names Åland, an autonomous region of Finland, on its lists, though both list Finland, so check before relying on a pack there.
Bank OTPs, WhatsApp and UPI
A travel eSIM is data only. Your Indian SIM stays in the phone as the second line, so your number, WhatsApp account and bank SMS stay with it. More in keeping WhatsApp and bank OTPs working abroad.
- Jio: the ₹951 pack includes 25 SMS in the five main countries. In the Faroe Islands and Greenland, check in the MyJio app what receiving SMS costs before you fly.
- Airtel prepaid: the IR activation pack costs ₹118 for 28 days at standard charges; check in the Airtel Thanks app whether you need it to receive SMS abroad.
- Airtel postpaid: new plans from ₹499 a month include one free 5-day roaming trip a year with free incoming SMS; Airtel has not listed the countries.
- Vi: check roaming and SMS rules in the Vi app.
- WhatsApp: EU open-internet rules stop operators in Denmark, Sweden and Finland from blocking or slowing apps such as WhatsApp, Norway's Nkom applies the same rules, and Freedom House rates Iceland 94 out of 100 for internet freedom.
- UPI: UPI merchant payments were not live in any of these places on 31 August 2026, so carry a card or forex card.
Set it up at home
- Check your phone takes an eSIM: iPhone XS or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z models. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows, it does.
- Buy your plan, for most trips one Europe plan, and scan the QR code on Wi-Fi before you leave India. It takes about two minutes per eSIM.
- On most plans the validity starts when the eSIM first connects at your destination, not when you buy or install it.
- After landing, turn the eSIM line on, switch on data roaming for it, and set it as the line for mobile data.
Step-by-step pictures for iPhone and Android are in how to install a travel eSIM.
When a local SIM or roaming is the better choice
Choose a Jio or Airtel pack if you will make many normal calls on your Indian number: Jio's ₹951 pack has 100 outgoing and 100 incoming minutes over 10 days, and Airtel's ₹1,298 pack has 200 minutes.
Choose a local SIM for a long stay or a local number. Under the EU's Roam like at home rules, a SIM bought in any of the five main countries also works across the EU and EEA at home prices, though the rules do not cover your Indian SIM. But prepaid SIMs in Sweden and Norway must be registered before use, which visitors without a local ID number usually do in a store, while a travel eSIM installed at home has you online at the airport.
Questions
Does one Europe eSIM cover the Nordics and Iceland?
Yes for Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland: Europe 10 GB is ₹749 for 30 days, 5 GB is ₹499 and Unlimited is ₹1,099 for 7 days. For Åland, pick a 41-country Europe plan, from ₹1,599. No Europe plan covers the Faroe Islands or Greenland.
Does Jio work in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland?
Yes. All five are on Jio's 75-, 100- and 132-country pack lists; the 10-day ₹951 pack gives 4 GB, 100 outgoing and 100 incoming minutes and 25 SMS. For data, the ₹749 Europe eSIM gives 10 GB for 30 days.
Can I use my Indian SIM in Scandinavia and still get bank OTPs?
Yes. Keep it on as the second line and bank SMS reach you while the eSIM handles data. Check in your operator's app what receiving SMS costs.
Do I need a SIM card in Scandinavia or Iceland?
No. A travel eSIM installed at home gives you data when you land, with no physical SIM card. A local SIM suits a long stay, but in Sweden and Norway it must be registered before use, usually in a store.
Do the Faroe Islands or Greenland need a separate plan?
Greenland does: no regional plan covers it, and our Greenland plan is ₹4,499 for 5 GB over 30 days. For the Faroe Islands, use the ₹749 Faroe Islands plan, or the Global 5 GB plan at ₹1,499, which also covers the five main countries.
Do I need cash, or are cards enough?
Cards are enough for most purchases, especially in Sweden and Norway, where few people pay cash. UPI does not work here, so carry a card or forex card.
Can I share the eSIM as a hotspot?
Usually, yes: hotspot is included on most plans. Connected devices share your plan's data.
