USA eSIM for Indians (2026): prices vs Jio, Airtel and US visitor passes
What staying online in the USA really costs, which network suits cities or road trips, and how to keep bank OTPs coming to your Indian number.
You have three ways to stay online in the USA: a Jio or Airtel roaming pack, a T-Mobile or AT&T visitor eSIM bought after you land, or a travel eSIM installed at home before you fly. Here is how they compare on price, coverage and bank OTPs.
For a one to two week USA trip, a 10 GB travel eSIM costs ₹1,099 on eSIMKite and lasts 30 days. Jio's USA pack is ₹1,555 for 12 GB over 15 days, and Airtel's 10-day pack is ₹1,298 for 6 GB. Keep your Indian SIM on as a second line so bank OTPs still reach you.

Other sizes: 1 GB for 7 days is ₹149, enough for a stopover, and 3 GB is ₹399, 20 GB is ₹1,999 and 50 GB is ₹4,699, each for 30 days. Unlimited plans give 1 GB a day at full speed, then 512 Kbps: ₹399 for 3 days, ₹599 for 5, ₹1,199 for 10, ₹1,699 for 15 and ₹3,099 for 30. The 30-day plans also cost less than the short versions: 5 GB for 30 days is ₹599, while 5 GB for 7 days is ₹849. Every plan is on the USA eSIM page.
How much data you need
| Your trip | Typical use | Pick |
|---|---|---|
| 5 days: maps, Uber and WhatsApp | about 0.5 GB a day | 3 GB, ₹399 |
| 7 to 14 days, plus Instagram and photo backups | about 0.7 GB a day | 10 GB, ₹1,099, or 5 GB, ₹599 if you use hotel Wi-Fi a lot |
| Video calls every day, or a hotspot for family | 1 GB a day or more | Unlimited, ₹849 for 7 days or ₹1,199 for 10 days |
Daily use is a rough guide: hotel Wi-Fi brings it down, Reels and YouTube push it up. eSIMKite prices from esimkite.com on 21 Oct 2026. For a longer visit, look at 20 GB for ₹1,999 or Unlimited for 15 days at ₹1,699.
AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon: which is strongest where
eSIMKite's USA plans connect to AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, the three main US networks. Each one leads on something different.
- T-Mobile is fastest. Opensignal's July 2026 report gave it 12 of 16 awards, including reliability and download speed, where it leads by nearly 97 Mbps. Ookla also named it the fastest US mobile and 5G network for the first half of 2026.
- Verizon covers the most ground. It kept Opensignal's coverage award, with a score of 9.7 out of 10.
- AT&T keeps you connected most of the time. It won Opensignal's time-on-network award at 99.6%, just ahead of Verizon (99.5%) and T-Mobile (99.2%).
- Speeds are high overall. The US average mobile download was 285.93 Mbps in September 2026, 10th in the world (Ookla).
In big cities such as New York, T-Mobile is usually the quickest. It scores lower than AT&T and Verizon on coverage, though, so for road trips and national parks a plan that can use Verizon or AT&T is safer than T-Mobile alone. Check which networks your plan lists before you buy.
Bank OTPs, WhatsApp and UPI
A travel eSIM is data only. Your Indian SIM stays in the phone as the second line, so bank SMS still reach your number and WhatsApp keeps your Indian number. More in keeping WhatsApp and bank OTPs working abroad.
- Jio: keep your plan valid and the SIM switched on. Jio's packs that work in the USA include 20 to 100 SMS. Without a pack, Jio charges ₹2 a minute for calls in the USA, incoming included. Check in the MyJio app what receiving SMS costs before you fly.
- Airtel prepaid: the ₹118 roaming activation pack (28 days) switches roaming on at standard charges, without buying data. Check in the Airtel Thanks app what receiving SMS costs.
- Airtel postpaid: new plans from ₹499 a month (since 8 October 2026) include one free roaming trip a year: 5 days, 5 GB, 60 minutes, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS.
- Vi: check your roaming options and SMS charges in the Vi app before you fly.
- WhatsApp and FaceTime calls work over the eSIM's data, and we found no reports of US limits on them. Skype closed on 5 May 2025 and its users were moved to Microsoft Teams.
- UPI does not work in US shops. The USA is not among the countries that accepted UPI payments as of 31 August 2026, so carry a card or forex card.
Before you land
- Visa: India is not in the Visa Waiver Program, so Indians need a US visa and cannot use ESTA. Check the DHS page.
- No paper arrival form. For air arrivals, CBP creates your I-94 record electronically. You can look it up later on i94.cbp.dhs.gov or in the CBP Link app.
- Passport queue. Mobile Passport Control is not open to Indian B1/B2 visa holders, so use the regular queue.
- Rides from JFK. Uber and Lyft both serve JFK. For Terminals 5 and 7, pickup has moved to the Howard Beach AirTrain station during construction, and the AirTrain is free within the airport.
- New York subway and buses. Tap a contactless card or phone (OMNY). A ride is US$3.00, and you stop paying after US$35 in 7 days, as long as you tap with the same card or phone each time.
- Wi-Fi on arrival. JFK has free Wi-Fi on the Free JFK WiFi network. In New York, LinkNYC street kiosks give free Wi-Fi and free calls to any US number.
T-Mobile's visitor pass can only be bought after you land, so you would need that airport Wi-Fi to download it. An eSIM installed in India is ready as soon as you switch the line on.
Set it up at home
- Check your phone takes an eSIM: iPhone XS or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z models. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows, it does.
- Buy the USA plan and scan the QR code on Wi-Fi before you leave India. It takes about two minutes.
- Leave the eSIM line off until you land. The plan starts counting when the eSIM first connects at your destination, not when you buy it.
- After landing, turn the eSIM line on, switch on data roaming for it, and set it as the line for mobile data.

When a local SIM or roaming is the better choice
A roaming pack is the better buy if you will make many normal calls on your Indian number. Jio's ₹1,555 USA pack includes 150 outgoing minutes and unlimited incoming calls, and Airtel's ₹1,298 pack includes 200 minutes. For a stay of a month or more, Jio's ₹2,555 USA pack (30 days, 25 GB, 250 minutes) costs about the same per GB as our 20 GB plan at ₹1,999 and adds calls, so compare the two. See Jio vs Airtel vs Vi roaming packs for every pack.
If you want a US number and unlimited data, T-Mobile's U.S. Pass is US$25 for 7 days plus taxes, with unlimited calls and texts in the US, Mexico and Canada. The catch: you buy it after landing, it starts the moment you pay, and T-Mobile accepts cards only from select countries without saying whether Indian cards work. On a new Airtel postpaid plan, check whether the free yearly trip (5 days, 5 GB) covers the USA; Airtel's announcement does not list the countries. And for calls inside the US, New York's LinkNYC kiosks are free.
Questions
Does WhatsApp work on a USA eSIM?
Yes. WhatsApp messages and calls go over the eSIM's data, and your WhatsApp account keeps your Indian number. FaceTime works the same way.
Will I still get OTPs from my Indian bank in the USA?
Yes, if your Indian SIM stays switched on as the second line with roaming active. Before you fly, check in the MyJio, Airtel Thanks or Vi app what receiving SMS costs on your plan.
Is Jio or Airtel roaming cheaper than an eSIM for the USA?
For data on a trip of up to two weeks, no. Jio's USA pack gives 12 GB for ₹1,555 over 15 days and Airtel's 10-day pack gives 6 GB for ₹1,298, while the 10 GB eSIM is ₹1,099 and lasts 30 days. For a month or more, Jio's ₹2,555 pack (25 GB, 250 minutes) is close per GB and includes calls, so it is worth comparing.
Which network does the eSIM use in the USA?
eSIMKite's USA plans connect to AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. T-Mobile is fastest in cities, while Verizon and AT&T score higher on coverage, so check the networks on your plan if you are driving to national parks.
Can I share the eSIM as a hotspot?
Usually, yes: hotspot is included on most plans. Connected devices share your plan's data.
Will my Indian phone work on US networks?
Yes, if it is a 4G or 5G phone that supports VoLTE. US networks switched off 3G in 2022, and phones without VoLTE cannot call, text or use data there.
Can I buy T-Mobile's visitor pass before I fly?
No. T-Mobile says the U.S. Pass must be bought and activated in the US, and it starts the moment you pay. An eSIMKite plan is installed in India and starts when it first connects in the USA.
